Thrifty Tuesday

First off I finally have my oven back!!! So happy that I used it to make the chicken casserole tonight just to try it out.

Now what thrifty things took place on the old homestead this week.

I line dried every thing and I hope that the weather holds for a bit longer so I can do so a few more times.

Windows have been open during the day. While it has been fairly warm, the breezes are cool and are keeping the house cool as well. The furnace has not been turned on once this month.

Taking my usual early morning walks and have been managing the 10k steps with ease.

The garden is pretty much done. Now I just have to make more salsa, and eggplant parma.

Getting rough idea of how much milk, how many eggs, and how much produce/fruit I need to purchase to last the two weeks. I will have to go and get some thing week, but will be able to purchase enough next time I do a big shop to last that much longer.

I have gotten better at using up leftovers in other meals. Very little waste this week.

Everbody have a wonderful evening.

God bless.

  1. Hooray for getting your oven back in working order. I can only imagine it was a nuisance not having it available. (You cook far more often than I do).

I actually turned the furnace on this morning as the house was quite chilly. I only let it run the one cycle and then turned it off for the rest of the day. The weather has been wonderful and it looks it will last for another couple of weeks. I'd be okay if it lasted until December.

I'll be interested to see how you manage with shopping only once every two weeks. I can sometimes manage up to 10 days but it's usually a once a week task.

  2. Long may the good weather last, it is blowing a gale here so I would be chasing the washing over the croft if I were to try and line dry it.

  3. I made eggplant parmigiana last week. A favorite of ours.

  5. Yay - so glad your oven is fixed!! As for leftovers, most of our meals are planned with that in mind because it's much less work for Resident Chef. Sometimes the leftovers go in the freezer if there's too much. Tonight he made a wonderful chicken pot pie and there's enough to last us more than a week so half will frozen until a later date.

  6. I'm so happy to hear that you have a working oven Jackie. I'm so thankful that you shared your predicament with us. I told DH to not get rid of our toaster oven, just in case we end up with a non-working oven.
