Tuesday Tidbits

This is how mixed up I am getting lately. I have thought for the longest time that my dental appointment for the first filling was today.... Nope, I have been reading the calendar wrong and my appointment is tomorrow!! So I managed to get a few of the chores for tomorrow done today, but I am kind of afraid not enough of them.

I left making the chocolate eggs until tomorrow, but when I went shopping today there was a dearth of the ingredients I need. I might just make a half recipe, or while my mouth is still frozen making a quick trip to Walmart to see if they have them. I may even bake cookies, some of which will probably go home with Kris as part of his care package.

No knitting done today. Instead I sewed two Peep Bunnies for our grandcat. I put lots of catnip in with the filling. She has pretty much ruined the one I made her a few years ago. I hope to get a bit of knitting done tonight.

We took our forms into the accountant, and hopefully our income tax will be ready very soon. Keeping my fingers crossed that we don't have to pay this year, and actually get some money back again. That comes in handy for paying property taxes.

A side trip was made to the travel agents. We got a few books on cruises and will make a decision very soon on what we are going to do. I, of course started thinking that perhaps a shorter cruise would be acceptable to see if we even like cruising. We may just go on an Alaska cruise before booking the Greek Islands cruise. It is a bit shorter, starts here in Canada and I know so many people have loved that cruise and if I spend some time rolled into a ball in our suite...well then we will know that longer cruises are out.

Everybody have a wonderful evening.

God bless.

  2. A Greek Island cruise sounds amazing but it is a good idea to try a shorter one closer to home first.

  3. They will two very different cruises - Alaska, of course is cooler and you'd have a day or two cruising the glaciers so no stops. The Greek islands will be port heavy; that is a port every day. You certainly don't have to get off the ship but you probably would (I know I would) because chances are you may never do the cruise again.
I tend to agree the cruise out of Vancouver (or Seattle) is a good choice. The flights won't be as expensive, you don't need to worry (as much) about flight delays - though I do still recommend you fly in the day prior, just in case there is a hiccup. In Vancouver, you can stay in a hotel with a couple of blocks of the port - those tend to be pricey. Or, you can stay closer to the airport and take the Skytrain (it is a bit of pain with luggage but do-able), or even take a ship's transfer from the airport. If the hotel has an airport shuttle it won't cost a lot.
I haven't flown in Seattle for a cruise but did end there on a short cruise - probably 2015, a friend and I sailed from Vancouver to Ketchikan and then returned to Seattle. It was a short 4 day cruise and although it was good, it certainly didn't compare to the 14 day round trip I did from Vancouver last spring.
I've never done the Mediterranean and it is on my bucket - I'll get there someday. There is a website - CruiseCritic.com that has ship reviews and port information, as well as roll calls (a roll call is for a specific cruise). You do need to sign up for an account to access the "Boards" - this is where you'll find information from passengers about excursions, restaurants, shopping. It's a bit of a rabbit hole but fun!
Okay, enough from me. I could talk cruising all day!

  5. If you don't get seasick, then a cruise is a wonderful idea!

  6. We have never been on a cruise, but it is certainly a popular holiday. The only thing I would be worried about is catching Covid.

  7. I would love to do the Alaskan cruise but it's not in the cards for us. Canada has so much amazing scenery and I know that would be a beautiful trip. The other thing I'd love to do is take the train across the country but we simply can't begin to afford it.
