Wow, Month End Already

Is it my imagination or did this month pass by at warp speed. It is hard for me to believe that Thanksgiving is only a couple of weeks away, and Christmas is not far off either.

I am still getting things completed and stocking meals in the freezer for when I will need something quick and hearty. I hope to have at least three weeks of easy to prepare meals in there by the time I go for my surgery. Which, of course because I amm waiting for the call, it has not arrived yet. That's okay as it gives me more time to get ready.

I thought I would answer a few questions on previous posts tonight.

I was asked where I put my menu plans. Well, I have a binder that contains all my household tasks, my project goals for the month, my extra cleaning list for the month, and two calendars. One calendar is for appointments and meetings, the second calendar is for my menus. This sits on my computer/office desk so I can check things off as they are done.

My main dish might be changed to another night, but is usually made at some point in the week it is scheduled. The sides could and do change quite often depending on what leftovers I have and what needs to be used up.

Another question I have been asked is what am I stocking up on. Well that varies with what is on sale each week. I have been stocking up on canned fruit, coffee, sugar (must buy a couple more as soon as possible), flour, bread flour, bread machine yeast, mainly because we have been suffering shortages of those items.  I have also been stocking up on rice, pasta, tomato products (mainly because our garden didn't produce very well), cleaning supplies like laundry detergent, dish soap, dishwasher soap, vinegar, oils, freezer bags and containers, as well as meats.  I have been looking for shelf stable boxes of milk, but no luck as of yet.

This next shopping excursion will be for some more paper products like tissues, toilet paper (I like to have 2 packages in reserve), and other items like butter that can be frozen.

I am also going to stock up for Harvey as well. Perhaps not this week, but next week for sure. I will be heading to Walmart and picking up cough syrup, batteries, Tylenol, low dose Aspirin, Vitalux for his eyes, more small purse and pocket size hand sanitizer, puzzles and cross word books.

For myself I will continue to download free reading material from BookBub, and pick up any low cost craft materials that I can. I am restocking my sewing thread choices as well and adding to my stock of sewing machine needles (I go through lots of those).

I may be stocking too much, but I would much rather be prepared for whatever weather we end up with (sometimes it can be really bad) or what ever Covid-19 throws our way.

Everybody have a wonderful evening.

God bless.

  1. Hi Jackie! Thanks for commenting on my blog. I thought I would come see you. This month did pass by at warp speed! I never even got used to it being September and now tomorrow is October! I guess I'd better get busy since the holidays will be here in no time.

You mentioned having a binder for household tasks, project goals and such. I have been trying to do that too but I don't feel like it is as organized as I'd like it to be. Have you written any blog posts on doing such a binder? If so I'd love to go back and read them.

I've been trying to slowly stock up on things too due to both Covid and the coming winter. I just have a feeling this is not going to be an easy winter and I want to be ready!

You mentioned having a coming surgery. I'm sorry to hear that. I know how it can disrupt your life as I have had several over the years.

    Take care Jackie!

  2. It makes great sense to stock up for winter, our forefathers did it due to the lack of food during the winter. We have Covid and Brexit in the UK.

  3. I have been stocking up as well. I have been buying large bottles of hand sanitizer and filling the small bottles up. I have found this to be more cost effective. Take care.

  4. I don't believe we can ever be stocked up too much, Jackie. Good for you that you're thinking ahead. I'm hoping more people do this as it looks like the second wave of the virus is in full swing in many places. Our ancestors stocked up as a matter of habit and I believe it's a lost art these days. ~Andrea xoxo

  5. It sounds like you have things well in hand. I've been stocking up on cold remedies especially since I think this flu season will be worrisome. I picked up flour and sugar the other day too. And like you I tend to keep a couple of packages of toilet paper and paper towel on hand. My kids used to say I could outfit an army...but no one's laughing now. :) For some reason paper towels are hard to come by.

    Take care and stay well!

  6. Enjoyed this visit. Like you, I like to stay a few packages or bottles ahead on laundry supplies and paper supplies. Also when we use a can or jar of something, we'll replace it with two the next shopping trip. That way we have a good stock of pantry items. I canned soup last year and haven't used all of it but it would be good to can some more. I had a good year for tomatoes several years ago so I have some canned.
I hope you're having a very special first day of October.
