Thrifty Tuesday

Well it hasn't been a thoroughly thrifty week, but some of the things I spent money on will be thrifty buys as the winter progresses.

I bought some new thermal lined curtains which should help our power bill this winter. Keeping the heat in and the cold out is a thrifty practice.

I fixed the hem on one set of drapes, and the old dining room drapes (thermal lined) were moved into the bedroom Kris uses when he is home. The drapes I fixed were put back up in the sewing/craft room until I can find a pair of thermal drapes that I like.

I have cut the leftover scraps of cotton into squares to make a couple more quilt tops. I might even get a bit more artistic this time around.

Beeswax wrappers have been made today. The first couple were slightly over waxed, but I hope to fix that in the near future.

The leftover ham was packaged up and will be used to make other wonderful meals this month and next month. Some was even bagged up to be used for Harvey's sandwiches at lunch.

Stocking up is coming along nicely. I still have to get batteries (just a few packages of C and D sized), as well as dishwasher soap and some more cans of fruit.

I have managed to cook some large batches this week and the extra has been stored in containers in the freezer downstairs.

Baked beans were made and also stored in containers in the large freezer.

Everybody have a wonderful evening.

God bless.

  1. I like to use all my leftovers too. Such a good idea to have thermal lined curtains, hopefully that will help with the heating bill.

  2. Great accomplishments. How did you decide what and how much to stock up on?

I've decided to start with non-food items. First up is first aid and over the counter meds both for in the house and our bug out bag in the car.

  3. I have to ask as I've no clue, what do you use the beeswax wrappers for?

You must share quilt photos. My mom was a quilter but I've never had the patience. Take care and stay well!

  4. Is it getting cold there? We are beginning to see some cooler nights and Daytime is pleasant. No more high humidity days. Enough leaves are falling from our Maple to the back porch and need blowing off daily. It's getting time for some crockpot soups. Maybe Saturday since our ballgame is at 6:30p.m.
I didn't do a lot of canning this year. We've put some fruit in the freezer and have gotten some Bell Pepper in there as well.
